Halfway between the autumn equinox and winter solstice, the festival of Samhain marks the end of the harvest and beginning of the winter months and the dark half of the year. Samhain was the time at which the veil between the Other world and our world was the weakest according to the Celts, allowing spirits to pass into our world. These customs and traditions were brought by Irish emigrants around the world, which with time transformed from the ancient ways into the modern Halloween and other similar traditions. Mood: The night grows long and the veil begins to thin on Samhain night, where the old Celts gather to celebrate the return of the sun with exotic spices and warming baked treats.Smells Like: Nutmeg sprinkled on almond pastries, melted butter and clove with rich tonka bean.
