Candle Recs for Pirates
Do you have a favorite fictional pirate? Maybe you're drawn to the quirky, madcap charm of Jack Sparrow. Maybe you like the outward joviality with the undercurrent of danger that is Long John Silver. Which would you most like to visit with?
If you're looking for a fragrance that will transport you into the presence of your favorite pirate, look no further. We've paired multiple fictional pirates with candle fragrances from our Black Flag collection.
Is your favorite pirate listed below? Read on to find out.
Barbossa:
What we know about Barbossa is that he is a man of refined tastes, ruthless but diplomatic and clever. He also likes apples.
For a pirate of such sophistication, who often needs to entertain ladies of high standing, we recommend Captain's Quarters.
This candle is a luxurious blend of fine leather, polished wood, and exotic vanilla, everything a suave pirate captain would desire … except the apples, but we all know he can't eat them anyway.
Captain Flint
What Captain Flint is best at is the accumulation of treasure. He buried large quantities of it, and while he never got to go back for it, carrying around a candle to remind him of it would probably suit him.
Therefore for Captain Flint, our recommendation is Plunder.
This candle is worth its weight in gold, after all. It is a treasure trove of fragrances such as cocoa beans, sugar cane, and cashmere woods. Perfect for a pirate obsessed with wealth.
Long John Silver
A battle-scarred adventurer, but also a man able to work as the ship's cook as needed, Long John Silver is the working man's pirate. Perhaps a little evil, but also with a willingness to mentor a fatherless boy. No matter his foul deeds, you can't help but hope he makes it out alive.
Because of his willingness to get his hands dirty but also his love for treasure, we would suggest Forbidden Jungle for Long John.
Lighting this candle with its fragrance of damp earth and tropical foliage will transport you both to distant shores where you will dig for treasures beneath the palms.
Captain Hook
Unique among this group, Captain Hook cares little for treasure or glory or adventure. He has one obsession and that is revenge.
For a pirate this bloodthirsty and single-minded, we have to recommend Skull & Crossbones.
The theme of this candle is pure pirate, but the fragrance of sandalwood, jasmine, and white coconut is actually quite soothing. Perhaps it will help him relax and stop listening for the tick-tock of the hunting croc for as least an evening.
Blackbeard
Though Edward Teach was an actual, historical person, he has popped up repeatedly in fictional tales including the Pirates of the Caribbean series, Pan, Our Flag Means Death, and even Doctor Who.
So many varied representations mean matching this famous buccaneer to a particular candle is basically impossible ... for a lesser group of candle magicians, that is. We at Mythologie have given Blackbeard his own candle: Blackbeard.
Honestly, ANY pirate would love this candle with its rich aromas of spiced rum and travelworn leather. It's everything a pirate captain SHOULD smell like.
Davy Jones
Part pirate, part mythical being, Jones is grotesque yet unforgettable. He strikes fear into the hearts of sailors, but his greatest weapon is perhaps the mighty Kraken which he can summon to hunt down those who have gone back on their bargains.
Luckily for him, we have a candle named in honor of his pet monster.
The Kraken's aged birch, black pepper, and mandarin fragrance is as fresh and bracing as the sea, but with dark secrets. Perfect for a captain who lurks in a rotting pirate ship in the depths of the sea.
Jack Sparrow
Probably the most popular and instantly recognizable pirate on this list, Jack is flighty and unpredictable, a little mad or perhaps just severely dehydrated and perpetually tipsy. He's also a perpetual underdog, shipwrecked, betrayed by his own crew, and generally always down on his luck.
Though he may not like it very much, the candle that best fits his mood is probably Shipwrecked.
Burning Shipwrecked will transport you to the desert island where Sparrow was marooned, trapped beneath the tropical sun with its notes of driftwood and dried cedarleaf.
There are so many amazing pirates, we could've gone on for ages. We hope your favorite pirate was included on the list.
If not, maybe you'd like to make your own pirate/candle combo. Check out our full Black Flag Collection here.
