Get Wild with Goblincore!
Mythologie Candles' most recent mini-collection celebrates the cozy but earthy fantasy aesthetic of Goblincore.
Goblincore features nature and fantasy creatures traditionally regarded as imperfect or even ugly. It's all about frogs and mushrooms and cobwebs.
It's such a fun aesthetic, and these candles really bring it to life.
Here at Mythologie we believe immersion is a full package, though. We don't want you to just smell the candles but to experience the world they create around you.
To help with that, we've created an awesome list of Goblincore themed entertainment, everything from books and movies to games of both the video and tabletop variety.
Are you ready? Let's begin.
Our Top Goblincore Entertainment Picks
Goblincore Books:
The Skull by Jon Klassen
This charming fable is dark in aesthetic but whimsical in execution. A short book with simple but delightful illustrations, it's great for all ages.
The Tangled Web by Drew Weing
A graphic novel pick by the twelve-year-old daughter of a Mythologie Elf, this fun book features a young heroine who has to deal with the monstrous and magical creatures who live beneath her city. It DOES feature spiders, so if you have arachnophobia, be warned.
The Cats of Tanglewood Forest by Charles de Lint
A wild girl is bitten by a snake but spared from death when magical cats turn her into a kitten. That's just the beginning of this original folktale.
Take a journey through a magical backwoods world accompanied by the gorgeous illustrations of Charles Vess.
The Princess and the Goblin by George MacDonald
This classic tale was an inspiration to both C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien. Whimsical magic and a world you'll want to never leave ... though watch out for the titular goblins!
Spider Spell by H.L. Burke
A short tale of a magician's apprentice who saves the life of a spider with unintended consequences. Magic acts in unpredictable ways in this funny, family friendly story.
The Cruel Prince by Holly Black
This bestselling Dark Fantasy Romance features murder and treachery in the High Court of Faerie.
Goblincore Movies and TV shows:
Grimm
This fun, fast-paced Urban Fantasy features a Portland, Oregon detective who finds himself suddenly able to see the strange creatures hiding among the populace. This combination of folklore inspired dark fantasy and mystery/police procedural is a lot of fun.
Spiderwick Chronicles
We debated putting this one under books, but the movie version won out. This fun adventure for the whole family features magical creatures and frightening monsters. Perfect for movie night.
Onward
A less talked about Pixar venture, Onward combines modern life and fairy tale creatures in this touching road trip story about family and brotherhood.
Gravity Falls
While originally marketed for children, the clever humor and intricate world building behind this animated series makes it a favorite for many adults as well.
Another series to take place in Oregon, a pair of twins are sent to spend summer at their Great Uncle's tourist trap and uncover magic, conspiracy, and danger.
Labyrinth
This beloved classic features magic and music along with amazing puppetry ... and of course the irreplaceable David Bowie as the Goblin King.
Video Games
Cattails
We have a LOT of cat ladies (and gentlemen) working here, so this cozy life RPG is right up our alley. Join a colony of strays, befriend your neighbors, and make a home as a feral cat roaming an expansive universe.
Don't Starve
This quirky survivor game features character design straight out of a Tim Burton film. Gather resources, fight monsters, and do you best to, well, not starve!
Undertale
This 2D RPG sends its young protagonist into a twisting underground kingdom populated by monsters, ghosts, and colorful characters. Famously a game that lets you choose between peace and violence, it has a nostalgic feel that is simultaneously dark and comforting.
Trash Goblin
Want to play power wash simulator... but with fantasy? While away the hours as a cute goblin shopkeeper, cleaning and restoring various trinkets to resell to your quirky customers.
Table Top Games
Dragonwood
This fantasy card game is easy to learn and gives you the fun of battling dragons, goblins, and ghosts with its quick playstyle and endless strategy.
Honey Heist
This one-page tabletop roleplaying game allows you to play a bear. I'm really not sure what else needs to be said?
Easy to learn, easy to play. A good TTRPG for beginners or for veterans who don't have time to put together a full campaign and just want something to kill a few hours with.
Uncle Wiggily
This is a nostalgia pull. This very simple board game was a favorite for me growing up. While very simple in playstyle, the fantastical world of creatures ready to eat the titular rabbit always made me feel like I was taking part in a story rather than just playing a board game.
Wanderhome
Looking for a TTRPG that's a little more intricate than a one-sheet but still super cozy? Play a talking animal in a fantasy world as you journey. This story is more about cooperation and storytelling than fighting and combat.

I highly recommend Grimm, and it only gets better with every season! They also finished up the end of the series well, unlike a lot of shows. We recently went back and rewatched it.
