Braided Sweetbread

All summer we work outside with sweat on our brows to prepare for the coming harvest. We keep honey bees in a hive, caring for them and nurturing them in exchange for thick pieces of syrupy honeycomb.

The merchants in our village trade with travelers from faraway lands and acquire fragrant spices from over the seas, which we wait to use when winter’s first chill arrives. The grain from our store is ground into soft flour with stone and hard labor, and we knead it to create baked treats for the Solstice celebration.

: Folded with spices and honey from the summer past, sweet dough is braided intricately and left to rise in preparation for the solstice feast.

Smells like: Notes of golden honey with clouds of soft flour, crushed almonds, and a dusting of cinnamon.
