Longhouse Hearth

Snow falls softly outside onto the frozen ground outside where a bitter wind shakes the trees and bites the bare skin of any weary traveler fool enough to be out in this weather, but from where I am, I feel only heat on my face from the glowing fire at the center of the room.

We gather firewood from deep within the Northern forest and cast bundles of herbs onto the fire to fill our home with the scent of their sweet fragrance. A large spit turns and roasts tonight’s feast as we pour spiced mead and tell epic tales of warriors long since past.

: A roaring fire blazes inside our cozy longhouse, where we gather to share feasting, story, and song on this longest night.

Smells like: Notes of bright embers, smoky chips of cedarwood, and fragrant herbs crackling in the flames.
