Level up your Summer Fun with Candles

Ah, summer … the perfect time for pool parties, beach combing, backyard barbeque, and … candles?
It's true, many people don't think of candles in summer. Maybe they associate the flickering of flames with cooler seasons (though who doesn't love a good summer bonfire? Or torches flickering on the beach? Or a campfire in the quiet woods?). Maybe they worry the flames will heat things up … or maybe they're just too busy on the go, enjoying the great outdoors. All possible, but let's pause for a moment and consider how candles can enhance your summer …

Freshen up your indoor spaces:

While summer can be a time spent outdoors for a lot of people, it can also be a time where we close up our windows, draw the blinds, and do everything we can to keep the cold air in and the hot air out. Being stuck inside with the air-conditioning going full-blast may save us from heat stroke, but it can also make our environments stagnant and sometimes even stinky.
Damp beach towels. Lounging pets. Teenagers home all day during the summer break. There are so many fragrances a nice candle would combat.

Enhance the Great Outdoors:

Sitting on your patio reading a good book? Enjoying an evening around a picnic table? Bring a candle with you. Not only will you get a delightful ambiance of a flickering flame, but you may just keep yourself unbugged.
Many scents that are pleasant to us actually repel mosquitos. These include citrus, eucalyptus, and cinnamon bark. Surround yourself with delightful fragrances and avoid the bloodsuckers.

Make your summer entertainment more immersive:

When it's too hot to go outside, what do you do for entertainment? Do you read a good book? Put on a favorite movie? Or escape into the world of a game?
Whichever you like, enhance the experience with a candle. Pair the Lord of the Rings trilogy with any of our Middle-Earth-themed candles or light the Dwarven Forge while crafting in Minecraft. Take your pick of fictional world between the covers of a book and match it with the fragrance of your choice.

Experience out-of-season delights:

So many of us are sun-worshippers who can't wait for the warmer weather, but we all have that friend (or maybe you are that friend) who is sitting on the edge of their seat, praying for the leaves to change and pumpkins to turn orange.
Or maybe you find yourself missing the ski slopes or just wanting to feel a little holiday cheer (there's a reason "Christmas in July" is a thing. Candles can transport you not just in place but in time, letting you imagine you're experiencing whatever season you'd like.

Travel like a candle pro:

While traveling sometimes you end up in a hotel that just doesn't pass the sniff test. Whip out one of our candles and fix things right up. Some of our collections have sets of pocket-sized 2oz candles perfect for a summer on the go. Keep one in your car and let the heat from the sun melt it, spreading the scent without the use of flame.

Worried about the heat?

A properly ventilated candle shouldn't produce that much heat. Our coconut wax has a low melting point, so it only takes a small flame and a little bit of warmth to get the full experience. If even that is too much for you, though, consider using an electric candle warmer. These concentrate the heat on the candle itself and can warm them without warming the area around them … or if your house is warm enough, just set a candle on the window sill and use solar power to scent your home!
Want even more options? Mythologie has recently released Room & Linen Sprays AND Reed Diffusers, both excellent options that can dispense delightful aromas without the use of a flame or power source.
These are just some of the ways candles can improve your summer season.
